The 4th of July in Lander, WY - It begin with a pancake, sausage, OJ/coffee breakfast hosted at the Senior Citizen Center. Then followed the parade down Main Street consisting of antique cars, tractors, horsemen and women, American Indians (whose culture is not only welcomed but clearly encouraged), and us bicyclists in the spandex shorts. THe children along the route were like all children scampering for tossed candy like well fed and dressed street urchins. Shortly after the parade was a picnic in the city park hosted by the Rotary Club. That evening was the rodeo. The entire day was a credit to the clebration of our Country's independence. Lander goes down as one of my favorite towns.
From Lander to the red hills of Dubois; Coulter Bay Village and Jackson in the Teton Mt area. The Tetons are reported to be the "youngsters" of the Rocky Mt. Range - rugged, sharpely carved, and massive.
We layed over a day in Jackson. An evening meal was enjoyed at the Blue Lion restaurant where I dined on elk tenderloin and trout. The next day, we took a float trip down the Snake River viewing bald eagles, white pelicans, and yellow belly marimots.
From Jackson we entered Idaho - Ashton, the potato seed capital of the world. Enroute were fields not only of potatoes, but wheat (not yet amber; but matue enough to ripple in waves by the blowing wind across the acreage) as well.
West Yellowstone provided our entrance to the National Park - truly a must see sight in America. It is wonderfully preserved with a natural geological spectrum and wildlife galore. Evidence of the destructive fire of 1988 remains with standing stripped lodgepole pines surrounded by young saplings.
Four more weeks and the trip is completed. Glenda has grown inpatient with her husband's "great adventure". I, too, am growing a bit tired and will be anxious to return home.

Teton & Yellowstone on a bike???
I just returned from the exact locations you have described (Duboise, Moran Junction, West Yellowstone, etc.) As I recall, we crossed the Continental Divide (aka 'The Great Divide') on five separate occasions. My Suburban struggled up, and down, up, and down - I simply can't imagine making the same trip on a bike that's not equipped with 1200 cc's to assist me! However, I guess the benefit to being forced to travel so slowly is that you and I were allowed to really take in the beauty you have accurately described. It is by far the most spectacular area I have seen in our country.

I'm glad you have had these experiences. We look forward to your return so we can hear your stories first hand. We miss you.

What a 4th!
Quite a memorable 4th of July celebration. Have never been to the Tetons or for that matter the Idaho or Wyoming areas. Sounds beautiful.

Inspiration
Keep it going. You inspired me to do the same thing. Well not exactly. Since you crossed America (soon), I thought that I would try another continent. Making plans for the right latitude in Africa. :-) Good Luck.
