We are currently in Basel, Switzerland. We needed to get out of Paris, so we hopped on a train and rode through France into Switzerland.  Its been snowing a LOT.  Kind of wish I would have went skiing as I originally planned, but it would have been expensive and required Lauren to bring another bag, which in turn would have cost me a fee on every flight we took.  So, it was easier and cheaper to not worry about it.

Switzerland is beautiful, and Basel in a cool city.  It has around 700,000 people.  However, it is really peaceful and quite for a large city.  We went to a beer house last night that is apparently world known.  We just saw it and thought it looked cool, so we lucked out.  It is called the Penguin House. Google it.  They serve 120 different beers, and every beer is served in the authentic glass for said beer.  No draft beer, all bottles.  You tell the owner what beers you like, and he will make a recommendation, or you can go through the book that is about 3 inches thick and go pot luck.

The owner explained to us that Basel is over 1000 years old, dating back to the Roman Empire.  Basel is unique because it is on the border of France, Germany, and Switzerland.  The people here consider their city a distinct culture, not belonging to any of the three.

We were supposed to catch a train at eleven. There is a washer and dryer here, so matt thought he would do some laundry.  Turns out the dryer is broken, and Matt went ahead and washed all his jeans. So, until they dry, he has only athletic shorts to brave the snow.  Looks like we may be in Switzerland a while longer...
