We booked several flights through skyeurope during their Valentine's buy one get one free special. Matt's not really my type, but for a free ticket I guess I'll claim him. Haha well we had to go to Bratislava to catch a flight to Dublin. Bratislava is about 1 hour from Brno by train. I didn't really feel like waking up at 5 and having to get to the train, airport, etc. So we decided to go stay the night there. Besides, Matt had heard it was a cool place...

We got in to Bratislava no problem. We knew we had to catch a tram to get to the hostel, so after we got some money out of an atm (bad thing about the Czech, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia is that they all have different currencies. But it beats being on the Euro), we headed out to the tram stop. Now one thing we learned quick over here is that the tram ticket machines all require coins. The problem is, central europe hasn't discovered change machines yet. So, we always have to buy something to break a bill and get change. Matt goes and buys a snickers, which has become his favorite snack. Being the responsible traveler he is, he counts the change as she helps the next person. Realizing she shorted him 500 slovaks (about 25 bucks), he brings this to her attention. Before he can say a word, she hands him the 500 slovaks, which she had apparently set aside to take home for herself. First impression of Bratislava..... Awesome.

We get the to the hostel around 9, and ask the hostel how to get to the airport. We're told to get a cab, but that we better let him do it. He says it will cost 250 slovaks. Out of curiosity, I ask him how much it would cost if we flagged one down ourselves. 1000 slovaks. Second impression of Bratislava..... Awesome.

Honestly we could have seen the worst parts, but in my experience the place is trashy and sketchy. Graffiti and trash everywhere, and the second you're not paying attention you'll get taken for more than you should.

We did however have a great time at a pub with some young mexican guys from the hostel. They were traveling around Europe as well, stopping to work when necessary. No matter where we go, we always manage to meet some cool people and have fun. And even Bratislava was no exception to that.
