So I made it safely home. My final two days in London were spent seeing shows.
On Monday I saw Wicked and Tuesday Mary Poppins.
Monday was a lovely day. I couldn't have asked for nicer weather. I picked up a very costly ticket for Wicked and then since it was at the Apollo Victoria (not to be confused with the Apollo Theatre also in the West End and where I went first to get tickets - note to travellers, the two theatres are no where near each other!) The Victoria area is near Buckingham Palace and on Buckingham Palace Road is where the Guide Shop is! I made a stop and then continued on to see the band rehearsing for the changing of the guard. I got some great pics of them all decked out in their Canadian bear skin hats. I have to say it is weird listening to the band play broadway show tunes!
I went to the National Gallery. I have to saw that my favourite part of the gallery is the impressionist section. I sat for awhile looking at Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" and then other famous paintings by impressionists like Monet.
I went back to change clothes and then back out to see Wicked. It was very good. I had row 4 tickets. When I got there the row behind me was filled with a group of Pathfinders from Edmonton out on their first night in London.
I was looking for the american contingent from my Scotland trip as they said they had tickets for the stalls also for that night and they came in late and I found them sitting in that very same row as the Pathfinders. Small world.
The next day bad weather again for poor London that has had a horrible summer of rains and flooding. I got in the TKTS line up for cheap tickets. It opened at 10am and there was a short line up when I got there.  I wanted tickets for the matinee of Mary Poppins. I was disappointed in the show. I didn't believe the Mary Poppins actress (her voice was excellent) and the show didn't have flow. There are some songs in the show that aren't in the movie and the show didn't advance from the added ones.
Heidi and I went out to a funky restaurant that used to be a power station for my last big meal.
Wednesday it was off to the airport and a really good BA flight home. I really like their on demand video system. You can watch any of their dozens of movies and classics too and stop them, rewind them, fast forward them all to your liking.
I watched "Becoming Jane". That is the movie I saw the costumes for at Jane Austen's house earlier in the trip. It was good. Anne Hathaway does Jane justice and you get to see Maggie Smith, Julies Walters and many other british actors. The lead in The Last King of Scotland plays the male lead in it. I then watched "Disturbia", Life on Mars, Mansfield Park and I got to see about half of Paris Je T'aime before I landed. I was able to unpack, catch up with family, do two loads of laundry, show mom my pictures and then whew go to bed.
No jet lag for me! I slept very soundly last night and got up ready to go today.
But I am definately glad to be back home with all my great photos and stories about my trip!
