This weekend was a weekend we had been waiting for... Venice! So thursday after class we packed up our bags and headed to the train station for our "fast train". Three hours and forty five minutes later we arrived in Venice! We took a cab to our hostel... "Camping Jolly" it was called. Basically everyone who checks in gets a camper... as if you were going camping. It had three beds and a bathroom and it was the cutest shack we could have ended up in. We arrived at 11 PM thursday night, so we just stayed in and slept before our big day friday.
Friday we woke up and ate breakfast at our hostel... 5 euro for an all you can eat buffet of american-esc breakfast and took a shuttle and a "people mover" over the water and arrived on the island! We of course stopped right away and bought postcards before wandering the streets and stopping into every store that was somewhat appealing.. We all ended up buying venetian masks because it was Carnevale of course! You can't go to Venice at Carnevale and not buy a mask... We then had lunch and went on a gondola ride! The guys in the striped shirts who row the gondolas were really nice and it was so weird being directed around streets made of water! We eventually found St. Mark's Square and the giant basilica where we took pictures and walked around before heading out for dinner. Venice was everything I dreamed it would be!
