The great news is that the bus was the most comfortable that we have had in ages. It was still not up to the Cama class of southern South America but it did have heaps of legroom (Annie could not reach the seat in front of her with her feet!) and the seats were a few centimetres wider than usual - luxury! :-)
Our journey took us through places with names we have never heard before, will probably never visit again, and have forgotten their names already :-) We made a list of some of the stops, we slept through others, and could not even find a name for some :-)
- 17H00 Celaya
- 18H04 Salamanca
- 19H33 Parador San Martin, where got some hot chocolate to drink at the pitstop
- 20H45 Loncheria
- 23H40 Zapopan
- 05H30 Petrol stop somewhere unknown
- 08H45 Culiacan
- 11H46 Guasave Sin
We FINALLY got to Los Mochis at around 12H30 and happily left the bus. Incredible, some people, including a man who we had spoken to and who was travelling with his young children, were going all the way to Tijuana, the final destination of the bus and a full day's travel away!
Annie had read that, although the starting point of the Copper Canyon Train, Los Mochis is not the nicest of cities and apparently somewhat dangerous by night. Added to that, the train station is a number of Kilometres out of town so, all in all, not that attractive.
We had decided that we would go straight on by bus, yes, and another one, to El Fuerte, an apparently smaller, prettier and safer spot to start the train journey from.
With the usual asking many people for directions, getting many conflicting answers, choosing the ones we thought were right, and asking some more people, we found the correct bus terminus (Los Mochis has 6 or 7 different termini for the different destinations and bus companies!) and, like everyone else waiting, sat and waited for the next bus to El Fuerte.
