As China barrels its way into the modern world it is determined to provide us with English equivalents of what their informative signs say. Some of the translations are fantastic, amusing or just completely unintelligible. One of our guides suggested that this is probably because the translator has a Chinese-English dictionary and, when there are more than one choice of a word, they usually choose the wrong one.
 
It would be a lot simpler and more accurate to employ some of the many students who have flocked from around the world to the Universities of Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming or any other Chinese city to translate all these signs for them.
