Today was a completely free day where we neither had any planned agenda of sites to visit nor any time arranged with our guide. After so much time sightseeing with guides it is actually quite a relief.
After another lazy lie in we went to a French bakery for coffee and pastries for breakfast while sitting on the rooftop watching the world go by.
We followed this with a wander around the town through some of the streets we had not yet explored and even managed to do a spot of shopping, quite the achievement for us non-shoppers.
We continued our decadent eating day with a late lunch of toasted cheese sandwich, French fries with KETCHUP and hot chocolate
It was an interesting day of talking to and taking photos of local people just living their normal lives.
As it was our last night we decided to have a last meal at our favourite, the Petit Lijiang Book Café. Nigel, an Englishman who was also staying at our hotel and lives across the Park from us in London, joined us for drink and supper. It was a great evening and way to end our Lijiang visit. Anyone heading for Lijiang, this is definitely somewhere to eat, drink, relax, use the Internet or just while away some quiet time listening to their great music. See www.petitlijiang.com.

Local Life in Lijiang
. We had this treat in a coffee shop that reminded us of being in coffee shop in London, beautifully decorated, playing English music and groups of people sitting around chatting. One group of elderly Chinese people said hello to us as they were leaving and asked us where we were from. Imagine our surprise when we asked the same, expecting Shanghai or Beijing but instead hearing San Francisco! They are retired people who holiday in China and Taiwan for two months a year. You just never can tell!It was an interesting day of talking to and taking photos of local people just living their normal lives.
