On our first day of leisure in Lijiang we slept in way beyond the end of breakfast time so started the day with a breakfast we have not had since we came to China, Oats porridge and coffee at our favourite Lijiang Restaurant, Petit Lijiang Book Café.

We then met our guide and driver, Jack and Gary, and went off to see the unbelievable town of Suhe. I say unbelievable because, from every guide book it sounds like a place that is worth visiting but... they have taken an ancient town and "Disneyfied" it! In front of the old town they have built a new-old town in a similar style and both the new-old and the old-old towns are lined cheek to jowl with tourist trinket shops. In between there are a few outrageously priced restaurants. Sadly Jack told us that a mere five years ago it was a quaint ancient town much like Baisha which we had so enjoyed visiting a few days before. That means the future for Baisha does not look too bright.

Next we visited Black Dragon Pool Park, a wonderfully serene and quiet park which we wandered around for a while admiring the pools, the park and the mountain views. We found a table with stools right at the waterside and sat there contemplating the world for a while. Jack was determined to show us the various sights in the park so moved us on to see the Five Phoenix Hall, sitting around watching life pass by for a while was the better option :-)

And that ended our guided tour of Lijiang, we were left to our own devices for the rest of our time in Lijiang.

That evening we found a Naxi family restaurant and, once again, had a delicious meal of fish, chilli shredded potato and Chinese greens. It was very funny later on when a couple of Chinese ladies sat down at the table next to us and were checking out what we were eating. We told them the fish was great and, after some intense discussions with the waitress they also had and enjoyed the fish.
