We checked back into the same room on the 27th floor of the same hotel as it was a really good view room and felt quite comfortable to be "home" again.

We had enough daylight left to explore the new area (10 years) of Pudong where we were staying and where the main cluster of high rise buildings have sprung up and continue to do so. Construction is clearly the dominant industry of China.

We started off by admiring the Oriental Pearl Tower with its giant round ball shapes all the way up the tower. Next we went up to the lobby of the Grand Hyatt Hotel which is on the 54th floor of the Jinmao Tower, China's tallest building. The views from there were amazing. We considered the observation deck on the 88th floor but the mist / fog / smog was blowing in fast and so it seemed like a pointless exercise.

A friend told us that there were great views (and ice cream) of The Bund by night to be had from the Hagen Daz on the Riverside Promenade so we headed off there. The Chinese cityscapes by night are wonderful, they keep the neon lighting artists and industry very busy.

We had a 5:30 AM pickup in the morning for our flights via Xian to Xining where we were catching the train to Lhasa so we headed back to our hotel, had a quick bite to eat our favourite nearby restaurant called Tete-a-Tete, packed and went to bed like two excited kids in anticipation of our train ride.
