After breakfast we were back in our Land Cruiser and on our way again. We met another local family, this time to drink salt tea and taste cheese, a lot more palatable than our last local tastes. As a special treat we also got to taste home made Mongolian Vodka. It was delicious but, sadly, too early in the morning to drink more than just a taste :-) Our next destination was Bayan Zag, a small town where the local children go to school during the summer months, some really cute kids were running around, riding their bicycles and looking at us very curiously. Nearby this village is the site of the dinosaur cemetery with flaming cliffs and where Dr Roy Chapman Andrews made his dinosaur discoveries in 1922. It is a huge, empty area of cliffs and crags with completely different colours from everywhere else we had been. After doing some exploring we sat overlooking all of this and ate Huushuur, traditional deep-fried Mongolian dumplings that our driver treated us to from the "Fast Food" shop in the town. Delicious!
After more than 200 kms of driving and lunch back at Juulchin Gobi 1 camp we headed off to Yolyn Am, a national park which is home to Bald Headed Eagles, Mountain Goats and various other bird and wildlife. We were exceptionally lucky as we saw more Bald Headed Eagles than we could count! Our guide said she had been there in the past and not seen any. The walk along the stream was really beautiful with a number of stops to snap off a few more photos of the cliffs that climbed to more 2,600 metres above sea level.
We stayed in another Ger in Juulchin Gobi 1 camp which we decided was decorated in "Mongo-Kitsch" with the different Ger tents decorated in either blue, yellow or pink, ours was a scarey pink. To add to this, there were a few Mongolian gazebos that were all lit up at night! Nevertheless, after our active day we slept well in preparation for another 06H00 departure for our flight back to UB.
