I have to tell you about the most amazing experience we had at Heathrow airport. Although Annie and I have done a fair amount of travelling, including since I have been using a white cane, this has never happened before. As we got to the security checkpoint the man checking our boarding passes, without being prompted, asked his colleague to watch his station, jumped up and escorted me through the queue straight to the x-ray machines where he handed me over to his colleague to see me through. Wow!

Then, as if that wasn't enough, after we had done our browsing of the shops, buying of water and having a drink, we headed for the gate to board. As we were about to sit down a lady from Royal Jordanian Airline came over and asked me if I was visually impaired. I said I was and she whisked us off to some seats for waiting to be priority boarded. When the doors were being opened there was the usual rush of passengers clamouring to be first through the boarding gates in the hope of an upgrade or perhaps getting there earlier. My lady was having none of this, she told them in no uncertain terms to go and sit back down while I and a man in a wheelchair were allowed to board at our leisure. Double WOW!!!

After a great flight where the plane was about 25% full (or is that 75% empty? :-), the air hostesses and stewards were friendly and drinks and food was quite pleasant, we arrived in Amman.

Before we even got to passport control we were met by Mohammed, the tour company representative who was driving us to our hotel. As we had already got visas in London we flew through immigration, got our bag in double-quick time and, being such a small airport, were at Mohammed's car within 20 minutes of the plane touching down. Around 45 minutes later, at around 1:00 AM(!) we got o our hotel. We were still a bit hyper from the flight and experiences so we sat and chatted while watching the start of the stars arriving on the red carpet for the Oscars. We finally went to sleep around 3 AM!

What a Great way to start a holiday.
