As usual with our trips to South Africa, we spent the first few days visiting and catching up with our Johannesburg family and friends who we have not seen for a few years. We even got to meet some new members of the family, Phoenix and Amaya who were born just over a year earlier.

We did have a few touristy outings too - we spent some time wandering around the Rosebank craft market (where we even managed to buy a few bits and pieces); had lunch at the Moyo African restaurant at Zoo Lake; and visited Constitution Hill which used to be the Old Fort Prison and is now the Constitutional Court along with an extremely good museum and memorial to the women prisoners, black and white, of the Apartheid era.

And we also got to experience the first of our many storms of our trip. On our first night in South Africa the heavens growled, thundered and opened to drench the city with rain and hail. If that was not enough, a power cut of a few hours was added to the "fun". Not a good start to summer in South Africa!
