Awoke at 8am, to yet another perfect sunny day having had a really good night's sleep in a Travel Lodge close to Lincoln.  After a satisfying breakfast at a "Little Chef" restaurant next door, we set off at 10am to visit Rita, Dave and Louise Thompson some old friends we hadn't seen for 11 years.  They were waiting on the doorstep and gave us a fantastic welcome and we spent the next 3 hours catching up with family news before being served a huge lunch of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with mountains of veggies, followed by a lemon tart and fresh cream - really yummy!  We then sat down to watch the "Tour de France" cycle race, which was started in London for the first time and took the riders through Rita's birthplace of Tenterden in Kent (which caused much excitement in the house) before the finishing at Canterbury with our own Roddy McEwin coming in FIRST having overtaken 150 other riders in the last mile and a half - what a result! and what a great end to our day in Lincoln.
We left at 4pm and had a great drive back to Solihull - mostly in sunshine but hit some heavy rain on the M6 almost at the end of our journey, but it didn't dampen our spirits having enjoyed a really interesting weekend.
Got back to Margaret's and packed our bags ready for a two week trip around the west of England and southern coastline between Cornwall to Hastings. (have to visit the dentist at 9.30am tomorrow to get a broken tooth fixed before we leave - Ugh!)
