Awoke to a wonderful sunny clear day, which was just what was wanted for the wedding of Marlene Chapman's son Gregg and his intended Gena. We set off early as we needed to book in at our Travel Lodge close to Lincoln prior to finding the church which was in a tiny spot on our map at a place called Welbourn. We had expected the journey to take us around 3 hours being a busy Saturday morning on the motorways, but sailed along on almost empty roads and arrived at the hotel in less than two. With plenty of time to spare, we found a nice country pub for lunch called The George at Leadenham a tiny town "in the middle of no where" which boasted having more than 600 different scotch whiskies and bottles of every other type of spirit and fortified wines available in the world! It was certainly an interesting place with high shelves holding rows and rows of whisky - most of which had been tried at some time or another - had a nice "ploughman's" washed down with a beer.
The wedding was really lovely with Gena arriving in a stunning cream Edwardian style gown with back lacing to the bodice. The whole affair went without a hitch and was followed by a terrific reception held in a splendid white marquee in the country garden of a good friend of the bride and groom. The cake needs to be seen to be believed (will try and add some photos asap) and we all danced later to the unusual music of a Gaelic Folk band and a good time was had by all.
