We are staying home today in the Lions House. I keep finding lions inside and out of the house. They fit here, the house is strong and it perches over the hill, like a lion on top of a rock looking over its territory.

There are chores on vacation, one of them is laundry. This washing machine is quite complicated with way too many cycle choices. Appliances should just have an off and on button especially when you are renting out your home. This would prevent, I am sure, many repair bills. I have arrived to a dial that is not working properly on a brand new washer. Fernando showed me the trick, but each time I have used it, things are slightly different and getting a little worse. Even the soap dispenser is complicated. I believe there will be a repair in the near future. The dryer, simple.

The dishwasher is a Bausch just like home but instead of one button, there are two to start the operation. Why? The oven is easily figured out as there are illustrations indicating, broil, bake etc. The stovetop as well is gas; you turn on a valve in the wall to let the gas flow in then use a lighter to flame the elements. This is done by depressing and turning the button ever so slightly. The only reason I am mentioning all of this is because it is part of the adventure - figuring out how things work. I love it now that I know it but it took awhile. The fridge and freezer are small, but we are spoiled at home. It holds what you need and besides over here you shop almost everyday. It is part of the social network. I could shop for food everyday.

It is cooler today and a little overcast. Tony has stocked up the firewood basket and prepared the outdoor fire for pork shish kabobs this evening, I have cleaned out the fridge and made a "melenzana", an Italian dish Tony's mom makes with potatoes, tomatoes, onion, garlic, peppers, eggplant and zucchini. I have added a hot pepper and a few leftover broad beans. It is like a vegetable stew. Grocery list is started and our plans are tentatively made for our remaining days here.

We watched two movies today, very old movies that were on television. "Billy the Kid" is always an entertaining story, this time the acting a little better. The other was with Louis Gosset Jr. Wish I could remember the title, but he is an actor I love, ever since Roots. A quiet lazy day. We felt like we were at the cottage with the fire roaring on a May weekend. The only difference being we sipped a white port aperitif on ice, a treat Mike left behind. Thank you Mike.

Dinner was good, the fire was warm. We Face timed our family and that was great! I miss them.

For leftovers that looks extremely appetizing.

We miss you too, and don't worry they'll be grandkids at your doorstep on your return :)
