It was very nice to wake up and be outside in the sun for early morning tea! The white wash on the stucco of the villa reflects the heat and we were very toastie out there! We decided to take Mike and Debbie to Mijas, so that they could experience a mountain town. Off we went!

I loved it when we started to make those hairpin turns. I was quite pleased to have Mike in the front seat as Tony sped around the first two turns. Tony now, is very comfortable with his environment, so is speeding a little, he is now a local! Mike on the other hand just got off the boat, and like me, was braking with two feet and he was almost prone and on our laps in the back seat! He yelled, after I told Tony to slow down, "so, what's the prize in this race?," It was another thrilling ride through the mountains.

When we arrived at Mijas, (Meehas) it began to rain. It poured, we were ready with our umbrellas and coats BUT those Brits were in sundresses and flat flip flop sandals! Actually many of the tourists there were not prepared for the changing climate. We did not look like locals but we did not look out of place. UNTIL, I put my hand on a freshly painted White House and pulled my hand away, lo and behold I looked like a Mime in my black coat, black jeans and pure white bright hands! I had previously wondered what all of the white stuff was running in the streets! Now I knew! I watered myself down and off we went to our lunch - we were going to experience Tapas!

Tony found us a local place that was awesome! Away from the maddening crowds, we walked and settled ourselves down in the second floor of a very nice, family owned place. Men everywhere no women in sight and we again are the first customers! Jim and Donna it reminded us of Roggi's. Rosé was ordered and the menu came, on a wing and a prayer we ordered. Tapas are for two, little bits. This is what arrived at our table:

Platters of:

Meatballs, little cocktail size, obviously a combo of meat, pork, beef in a gravy sauce with peas, onions and red pepper,
Eggplant, sliced perfectly thin, probably with a mandoline, that were dipped in a batter, think Spanish tempura and then drizzled with honey, the texture of chips
Chicken Wings, fried crisp with salsa on top
Pancetta, arrived like a bacon and tomato sandwich, the bacon sliced like pea meal bacon
Chorizo Sausage, also arriving like a bruschetta, the bread is very good here, those Europeans know how to make bread!
Calamari, tempura batter, crisp and clean, drizzled with lemon from their tree

Everything was very good, but again, a new favourite. The eggplant. When we ordered it we all talked about how much we hated eggplant, except Tony, and how you have to do something with it, well we are all going to try this! It was the only plate we reordered but everything was awesome! We stayed and waited out the rain, three bottles of rosé later, a toast of honey almond liqueur, a treat from our hosts and our new best friends, off we went after at least two and a half hours!

Homeward bound! What an afternoon! We settled in to our cozy dry clothes and hit the card games. I am not the winner and Mike is having trouble distinguishing between a poker hand and a Euchre hand, old one eye just sees what he wants too, but I love him as my partner! This was his comment "Gee whiz, I had four kings, can't believe I got euchred!"

Good night came soon, after a comfort bowl of homemade soup! You eat late here, when in Rome after all........Time is flying by!

Take care,

P.S. I have discovered that photos are a problem to send, something about the Internet here, so I will send when I can, thank you
