Boa Tarde!
So to carry on -
Saturday (17,02,07) was quite an easy day - intended to go to see Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado Monument) but was a little cloudy so decided to have another beach day.
The evening however was far more exciting as we were set to go to the Sambadrome for Carnival. This evening was a competition for the Samba Schools wishing to earn there place in next yearīs full Carnival - something like promotion in football, I think.
We had a lot of fun getting there, when our taxi gave up trying to drive us and advised us to walk
We were in Sector 5, the only īGringosī there it seemed. But we had a great time mixing with the locals - absolutely hilarious. The spectacle of the costumes, the music and the passion were astounding.
We left about 0030 and decided to take a cab...as it turned out, the Cab of Death. After I successfully negotiated 5 people in a 4 person Cab for only 15R (about Ģ3.75). Letīs just say all of had out eyes closed and there may even have been tears!
Domingo - 18.02.07
Headed to Corcovado this morning - beautiful, clear day, but temperatures was about 37C - far too hot.
Views across Rio were amazing. The city looks far better at a distance, with itīs beaches, mountain, the sea and high rise buildings. Down in the midst of it all, isnīt that nice.
Anyway - Carnival proper approaches...

PS - need to figure how to get these damn pics online!
