We awake at 6am to the sounds of a busy household, roosters crowing and cows mooing. Or was that Jo...

After breakfast we have another walk through the village (pen!! money!) and stop for coffee. The previous day, Jo had given a pen and a compass to a little boy and girl, and today she is thrilled when we spot the little girl with the compass atatched to a necklace around her neck and a big smile for us. The heat is really up and we are melting when we arrive back at the house, to pick up our bikes and get the boat to Champasak.

We really enjoyed the homestay and the family were very nice, but it maybe wasn't the proper 'Lao' experience we thought it would be. Still, it was well worth it and we would recommend at least a visit to Don Deang to anyone.

After another struggle getting our bikes on and off the make-shift boat, we make it to Champasak, the bigger neighbouring island. We stop for a drink at a riverside cafe and a tiny kitten jumps on Claire's lap away from an angry older cat below who Claire is tempted to kick. A beautiful lady boy dances extravegantly whilst her boss tells her to stop. Claire breaks in to a round of applause and she gives a little bow. We then drive around, making for the 'Wat Phu Champasak site' (old ruins of Khmer (cambodian) temples) but once we get there we are all too hot to walk up tons of stairs, so we give it a miss and drive back to Pakse. (naughty tourists!)

On return we do mundane stuff (laundry ect) and then meet Judith for dinner at an amazing Indian restaurant called the 'Nazim' and then end the day with beer, shithead and a small bottle of Lao Lao that is so harsh we end up pouring most of it away.
