Not a mouse or cockroach in sight, the train pulls into Danang station early morning, after which its one hour by bus onto Hoi An. We are not dissapointed; it is beautfiul with low french-style shops along every street. We head for lunch then onto a tailers where Jo gets measured for a custom made coat which costs her $75. The hotel is the nicest one so far with an outdoor pool on the top deck. (After a while, we get told off for splashing over the sides of the building, and onto peoples rooms below...)

We have dinner later and Hoi An is alive with people everywhere and kids banging drums and Chinese Dragon costumes dancing to celebrate (we think) either the full moon or the chinese new year. Lanterns light the streets and the shops stay open way after dark, helping make the narrow quaint streets beautifuly lit. We all agree that Hoi An is already our favourite place in Vietnam.


We start the day with a four hour bicycle tour around the suburbs of the city. We pass miles of rice paddies and farm land, water buffalow and allotments (where the people proudly show us the herbs they are growing, tearing them off and letting us smell) and we also stop at a little school where the kids (all infants) give us a rendition of a (sort of) well rehearsed song. Claire's favourite is a little girl with a mouth full of food who doesn't chew or swallow until the (lengthy) performance is finished. Becky's favourite is the fattest kid, who she declares belongs to her and trys to get a picture with.

We get a boat back to the city and then prepare for our cooking class. Han, our cooking instructor, first takes us around the local food market, and we awkwardly follow her as she tries to get us more involved. "What is this? Yessss garlic, yum yum."
Once we get to cooking, she wins us over with her outrageous flirting with the boys. "Hot Markus" and "strong Simon" have us in stitches, as well as being forced to sing "chop, chop, chop, hello chopping!" Whilst cutting spring onions and carrot. The fact that we can purchase beer and cocktails whilst cooking certainly helps the mood and it's a lot of fun.

We finish our last day in Hoi An with a drink in a local traveller orientated bar, where Jo gets chatted up by some bloke (LOLZZ) and Markus is dissapointed with the lack of buckets.
