Sunday morning we go to the Brooklyn flea market down by the east river edge in Williamsburg. Its stinking hot so we feel a bit dizzy as we wander around the craft food stalls, vintage clothes and furniture. The heat is meant to climb into the 100's this coming week so this is just a taster of what is to come at 92 degrees. Yay.
Nevertheless we trundle home to light a fire in our back garden, stand around it sweating, and make some really hot food on it to celebrate summer. Jo's BBQ skills are, at least, on a par with Dan's who puts his chicken straight on to still flaming coals and shuts the BBQ's lid.
Toby and Bronwyn pop by for food as do a few of Dan's friend's. We sit outside until the sun goes down explaining to one person we don't come from Ireland and learning Texas Hold'em poker from another (playing only for pennies). Victoria tells us that her and Dan were comparing their lesbians when we first moved in as she too lives with a female couple. Whereas she describes her pair as 'classic', Dan apparently described us as 'hip and cool'. Jo and Claire. Hip and cool. Needless to say we don't ask him if his opinion has changed while we've been living here...

On Monday its back to work as Claire trawls around East village looking for places to get publicity postcards made, and Jo heads up to midtown to work at the Bessie Nominations press conference. These awards celebrate dance in New York and its in some beautiful studios right next to Times Square. The job is not actually very complicated but its interesting none the less, and Jo is very grateful to Lori for the connection. All goes to plan except for Jo's 'which way is your head going in this hug' moment when saying goodbye to the lady in charge which means she basically kisses her... awkward.

Afterwards we wander up 5th Avenue looking at the expensive shops we would never go in and the Rockefeller centre, big church, trump tower etc etc. After dinner in Whole foods we subway it home managing to avoid the drizzle.
