Show trip route
Its late afternoon by the time we make it into Manhattan to drop Lois' keys off with her friend as promised.
Afterwards we head to the lower west side to see the high line park, built on the old elevated train tracks that used to serve the meat packing district in the west part of Manhattan.
Its really beautiful (good tip Miss Allen!) and as the heat is subsiding we can walk the whole length of it without melting. On our way back to the subway we go to Jane Street to find the Jane street theatre, where Claire's beloved Hedwig and the Angry Inch was first produced. We are a little gutted to find that it is now a fancy hotel and that the theatre has been completely ripped out and replaced by a bar
For dinner we head back into the East Village and get sushi at a place where the sushi is always half price (so just cheap all the time then) with Bronwyn and Toby.
Getting the L-train back to Brooklyn afterwards, around midnight, is so different to getting the tube at the same time; the carriage is packed with all kinds of people rather than just the drunks and crazies, and there is typically even still buskers playing on the platforms.
We stop at Iona's again for one drink (lol) and find ourselves in the midst of bar tenders who are now drinking after work and are either from Barnet or Ireland. One in particular tells us that he bar tends at a swanky hotel in Manhattan where Rupert and James Murdoch drink when in New York and that he once got drunk with George Clooney. We don't care if its not true, after all he bought us a drink.
