While Calgary's forecast was 28 degrees celcius, we had our first large bit of rain today that actually threatened our daytrip plan to Potsdam. I brought my rain jacket, and Jess brought her umbrella, and we went anyways. We got very lucky throughout the day because everytime we got off the tram to see something, the rain would let up, and then start again once we were under shelter. Potsdam is about a 45 minute S-Bahn ride from Berlin. It has some beautiful attractions that are in a more small-town and natural setting. The map we got made it very easy to navigate around Potsdam and see the sights we wanted to. We each circled what we wanted to see and by the end of the day, we just about did them all. First up was the Ruinenberg. This was a coliseum-like ruin with a huge tower on one side. We had to walk through a park to get here and at the entrance to the park there was a sign that told everyone to stick to the path because they are currently having a poisonous caterpillar epidemic. Then we went to an old temple and saw a pink Russian Orthadox church on the way. The Temple had the best view in Potsdam, and from the top, I could see the T.V. tower located at the centre of Berlin. We also squeezed in another walk through a park that lead us to Flatowturn, a small but very neat castle near a lake. This castle had only one tower with a small room beside it. It was very unique looking, and tucked away. Last but not least we kept following the path to Schloss Babelsburg, the Palace of Babelsburg. The pretty little Palace with English style towers and beautiful gardens.

It might have been because of the weather, but for the most part, we had these amazing buildings to ourselves, with only a few other brave tourists to be seen. Well worth the visit!
