Koala in the wild! Wow!
I looked across the trail from a side trail and thought I'd spotted a koala. I rushed across the main trail to check it out and it turns out to be bleached wood. Then Val, looking back to just about where we had been standing a minute ago, says, I think that's a koala. Apparently my voice rose an octave in excitement when I realized that she had indeed spotted a koala in the wild. So cool! I still can't believe they're real. They look like slow motion robotic teddy bears that some prankster placed in the tree (though when we returned an hour later it had left). The other cool thing is that this koala was a mom with a baby koala hugging her belly :). I couldn't really capture that in a photo, sorry. You'll have to come to Magnetic Island.
Koala Village YHA
Magnetic Island served as a nice place to catch up on sleep and chat with other travelers. The Bungalow Village YHA hostel felt really relaxed and had a good group of folks staying there. During dinner the skies unleashed a massive, torrential thunderstorm that didn't stop raining until the early morning.
