Civic Guest House is a good place to chill out and meet cool, non-party-party-party travelers. Plus we arrived on a Friday and got free BBQ. Mmmmm. That makes me happy no matter who the clientele are.
Townsville turns out to have more residents than Cairns. Somehow I had the impression that only Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Canberra, Cairns and Adelaide were big cities in Australia. I blame Bill Bryson...and my folks. But it turns out there are a lot of big cities here (like Surfers Paradise). Not that I mind, it's the type of thing you go travelling to learn.

We also loved the little tiny towns! But, in our defense, we never made it beyond Fraser Island north. We drove the coastal route south from Sydney to Melbourne and vicinity.
When you travel to paradise, I guess you have to expect other people love it too. Thus, bigger cities.
