After 5 buses, a taxi, an auto rickshaw and a plane, we made it from Goa to Kerala yesterday. Kerala seems like the Florida of India. Many people said it was the un-India India. I'm not sure what they meant by that. It is very much still India, just hotter and greener. The people aren't quite as pushy but I'm guessing it's really because there aren't quite as many of them and folks are reportedly more wealthy here. We stayed at a nice 'heritage home' guest house. It has two wonderful little courtyards to escape the craziness.
We finished off our stay in Kerala by hiring a houseboat to cruise the backwaters of Allepey for 24 hours. They provide three meals and you have the whole boat to yourself. It was quite relaxing. Lonely Planet ranks it as 'one of the top ten things to do before you die'. I wouldn't go that far...it was nice, but not one of the top ten things I'd do before I die.
------------
I'd like to thank Travelpod for listening to my feedback on the changes that they had made last month to the way that photos appear in the entries. If you noticed the change and now the repair, I'm sure they'd appreciate it if you thanked them, too, especially since I riled a few of you up enough to complain with me (thanks, mom :) ).
