Arriving in Delhi international airport, we met with Yashwan our tour leader for India. We immediately boarded a bus and began our 7 hour journey to the Corbett National Park, famous for their Tigers. The ride was far from boring. On the heavily trafficked roads congested by farm tractors, cows and vehicles, we passed by one slum after another with various chemical factories in between. As a result, every 5 minutes, a different revolting odor would slip through the windows; ensuring that those with sensitive noses stay awake.
Arriving at Corbett, we checked into our hotel. The Tiger Hotel. What a fantastic place, the best so far. I had my own chalet with a giant king size bed and private bath. What a change from the mountain guest houses in Nepal. The highlight of the hotel was their automatic Masala Tea machine in the restaurant. It produced a heavenly brew with the simple push of a button. Amen.
The main attraction at Corbett was their Jeep Safari. A 4 hour ride around the National park in hopes to spot tigers. After the Safari, I had a new found appreciation for zoos and why we built them. For 4 hours, we circled around with full concentration scanning the forest in search for cats with orange/black/white strips! And found none! What frustration. Next time, just take me to the zoo. During the safari, Janey frustrated with the lack of tigers but still in her innovative mind; decided to lure the tigers out by imitating the sounds of animals. She was enthusiastic and playful. Until the guide powerfully condemned 'Respect the Forest!!!'. More thumbnails ...
