Living the Hippie lifestyle

After spending the night in Fethiye, we headed to Olympos. On the way, we stopped at the Kaputas beach. It is a spectacular beach with clear blue water and clean fine sand. There weren't many people with only one yacht nearby. The sun was beating down and on the side is one lone Turkish man renting out beach umbrellas. It is not easy making a living sitting there all day just to do a little rental business. My pictures don't do the place justice but do check them out.
Olympos was once a city of the mysterious Lycian Civilization. Later Olympos was part of the Roman empire and was abandoned in the 15th century until the Hippies arrived. Today, life in Olympos is VERY laid back. There is one dirt road, various tree house hostels and a few small kebab restaurants. The vegetation in the area is thick, very green. For activities there is rock climbing and a beach. There is no internet access and only one mobile ATM machine that sometimes decide to work. There isn't much else to do here and despite the rave reviews from other travellers, I was glad this was a short stay for me. Not enough to keep me occupied.
The tree houses (see pictures) are quite something. Many were the actual homes of the Hippies who stayed here. The only difference is now they are wired with modern conveniences such as electricity. Atop the hill is the ruin of an Acropolis. I climbed to the top for some spectacular views of the beach below and the surrounding area. I was the only person up there until three Eastern European tourists broke upon the scene. They prove to me once again that they really enjoy taking pictures of themselves in dramatic poses. Me being there did not deter them one bit. The three take turns taking pictures of each other against the backdrop in dramatic poses. Close-ups. Angle shots. Pensive poses. I watched in amusement and raised one eyebrow when the man in the group took off his shirt and proceeded to oil himself: readying himself for his pictures. It was time for me to leave.
