We arrived in Spain today and checked into the hotel. So far so good. Although a little surreal to be hear again I don´t think one can ever get tired of visiting Costa del Sol. Its strange to see certain restaurants and to have it trigger old memories of what I ate there. Why is my brain wasting storage space remembering such trivial things??

My first time to Costa del Sol was 5 years ago with my Dad. We´ve been talking about taking my mom and sis here since because we enjoyed this place so much. We are finally doing it. We contemplated travelling to a different place (since my Dad and I have been here) but we decided that these family travel opportunities are rather rare so we stuck with the original plan which we know for sure will be lots of fun.

This area of Spain provides the rare combination of SSS (Sun, Sea and Sand) with cultural/historical sites. On one hand, Costa del sol has many beautiful beaches around the cities of Marbella, Torrelmoninos and Benalmadena. On the other hand, the cities of Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada and Ronda are within driving distances and are packed with many cultural and historical sites such as the Alhambra palace at Granada. There are many remnants of the wars between the crusade Christians and the resident Muslims at the time.

I can´t wait to visit Marbella again. It has a picturesque sea side promenade filled with chic restaurants, fancy art galleries and beautiful people. Its docks are also lined with clean bleach white yachts. I recall sitting at a restaurant looking out into the promenade when a wealthy looking lady (I suspect a Spanish movie star) drove up by the water in her new SLK and proceeded to electronically lower the hard top (a novelty back then). Many people were fascinated looking at her and so were many excited little kids. I thought I was watching a Mercedes commercial. Unfortunately, due to the high profile of this place, a couple years ago, some terrorists -Spanish extremists- set off bombs here.

There is currently a heat wave in Spain and it hit a high of 37 degrees today. Fortunately there is a breeze but I´m feeling the heat. It makes every drop of an ice cold Coke or ´Kas´ (a refreshing local orange drink) a heavenly necessity.
