We arrive in Galle and the hotel is in a bit of a strange looking street. We are staying in Surfcity in Unawatuna just to the East of Galle. The rooms are simple but good and we are a stone throw away from a lovely beach. The previous days there has been a lot of rain in Galle but on the day we arrive it's just beautiful. And it stays wonderful throughout our stay.
I check it the diving after being told that the conditions are not ok I later get to speak the divemaster who tells me I can go diving but the visibility is limited to 4 to 5 meters
The visibility is as he said not good at all. Once again I realise how spoiled I am having beautiful Barbados as my 2nd home. Beautiful beaches and great visibility are the norm. I will appreciate it a bit more the next time I go diving in Barbados again. Althgh the visibility is not very good the water is warm (I reckon it's about 27-28 degrees) and I still see plenty beautiful things and enjoyed the beauties and relaxation of the totally different underwater world.
I also watch one the matches of the West Indies women team against New Zealand supposedly one of the tougher opponents. But West Indies play well and do what they have to do and beat NZ with 7 wickets. Good team effort!
Galle has a lot of Dutch influences like fort Gall, gives you the look and feel like you are in Naarden. I also visited a Dutch Church where the 'koster' as he called himself showed me around. In the church a lot of the tombstones were in Dutch also.
We also visited the sea turtle farm and hatchery in Habaraduwa. It is a hatchery where they also educate kids. They also rescue injured turtles and let them get their strength back before they set them out again.
My stay in Galle was very relaxed, enjoying the beach and the nice atmosphere and once again friendly people.
It's official now 'I love Sri Lanka'.
