My Vietnamese tutor (Tung) invited me to his homevillage, about 120 kilometers from Hanoi proper (2hours by car) . They were welcoming in the new year and blessing the village with good luck for the coming year. Most of the celebration centered around the newly renovated Temple and along the lone adjacent street where makeshift food stalls were set up. Prayers, dances and offerings were done to mark the occasion. As foreigners we were treated with incredible respect and hospitality, and even given a personal tour of the village by the elders and Communist Party Village Leaders/Representatives. Pretty cool experience.
