Melaka, Malaysia
Chinese New Year

I left the beautiful Cameron Highlands early to celebrate Chinese New Year in Melaka, a town known for having a prominent Chinese community. What I failed to realize was that this was a HOLIDAY, meaning most people are on VACATION, meaning most of the shops are CLOSED. There was, however, a small Chinese celebration in downtown Chinatown new years eve night. Too bad I was staying in a lame Hostelling International guesthouse that locked the gates at midnight... right when all the cool fireworks were going off. I wasn't about to hang out in a ghost town shut down for the holidays, nor was I too thrilled about the idea of spending my last week in 2 large cities (Singapore proper and Kuala Lumpur), so I made a last minute decision to hop a 2 hour ferry to Sumatra, Indonesia from Melaka...
