This will be the last journal entry for this semester. Most everyone has left the A2 dormitory, leaving me alone to fend against lovers/stalkers abandoned by my American friends and the intimidating Russians on the 5th floor. It was lonely this past week without everyone around, another group of friends passing through my revolving door of life. It's hard as a student, making friends in 3month or 4year cycles, just to be uprooted and have to start all over again. Anyway, it's been an amazing semester, both in terms of friendships and self-discovery.
I can't stress the latter enough, for that's what this journey to Vietnam is really about, whether I admit or not. This feeling of getting in touch with my roots came full circle when my parents visited last month. My god, I've never seen them in their element, in a country where they feel totally at ease, where they are finally the Kings and Queens. This is their land, the people-food-customs-religion-humor, all of it, they can function with ease, and seeing this makes me at ease. Understanding
