The sun did not wake us up this morning.  A light drizzle was going on and that was a good enough reason to stay in bed a little longer.  We had toast, coffee and juice for breakfast and then finished doing some things online before getting ready to head out.  We had the umbrellas with us as it looked like we might need them - but in actuality we only had them open for about 2 minutes and then the sprinkles stopped and we could see slight breaks in the clouds.  We walked up to the main square, Preseren Square, and the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation and this is where there are some unusual art exhibits that are comprised of things hanging from wires above the square.  Today they were hanging some naked mannequins - not sure exactly what that is about.  There is also a very nice bronze replica of the city - 3D - and this morning after the rain, there was actually water in the Ljubljanica River part of it.  We then followed the real river back towards the market area.  We went inside the market building and admired all of the fresh breads, cheeses, meats, wines, etc Ljubljana 01

.  Then we wandered in the outdoor market.  Fresh fruits, vegetables, plants, candles and flowers.  By this time we were getting hungry and after looking at many different menus we found a place that was a bit on the outskirts of the old quarter and looked like it was popular with the locals.  It appeared to be a family run operation and the one woman that was taking care of the whole restaurant explained the menu to us.  I had a sort of Cordon Bleu Chicken dish - Sharon - I needed you here so that we could share.  It was too big for me to eat.  Jim had something called Pleskavica Pavla.  It was a blend of pork and beef and was pressed very thin and then cooked in a sauce of mushrooms and cheese and then some type of gravy.  On top was an egg with a runny yolk.  Jim took one look at it and wasn't sure what he was in for and after his first bite declared it one of the best things he has ever eaten.  You will recognize it from the photo.  Lunch was finished and then we walked some more and did some shopping.   We stopped back at our hotel to drop off some things and then we went to a shopping center where they had a huge supermarket.  We love to visit supermarkets when we travel - so we checked that out and got a few things for the next days when we will be in Austria.  Jim had to do a little work on the computer - so we stopped back at the hotel.  When Jim was finished we headed back out and over to the Castle - Ljubljanski Grad - We took the funicular up to the top of the 'mountain' and we wandered around a bit on the castle grounds.  We then climbed the tower and had a very nice view of the city and the surrounding mountain ranges.  The wind was starting to pick up and we headed back down....slowly....spiraling down, down, down.  We made it back in time to see a movie about the history of Ljubljana and then we made our way back to the 'city' and headed out to find a place for dinner.  We found a pizza place that was busy last night and looked pretty good.  We shared a medium pizza but as we were leaving they had just pulled a large pizza out of the oven.  I took the photo for you Jas...and for you mom....we know how you love pizza!  The prices here are unreal.  The pizza that Jim and I ordered for dinner was just over 6 Euro and it was more than we could eat.  We finished dinner around 9:30 and decided we would call it a night.  McTaggart, everyone here has been eating Gelato and poor Jim, he wants some but he is never hungry enough for it.  Maybe tomorrow we will skip lunch and have gelato!?

I've had enough...
I'm building a brick oven in the back yard. That pizza looks awesome, as does the rest of the town. Bring me back a piece. Do they ship frozen pizza's like Gino's East?

Fills in the cracks
I am surprised that two world travlers like you do not understand the physics of gelato. You can eat gelato any time because it does not fill you up. It fills in the cracks between all of the other food you have been eating. Try it you'll like it. Terry

Fairytale City!
So beautiful and clean. It can't be real; it must be a fairytale you two just stepped into!! Who knew this secret destination would be so magical?

The food in the markets and in the restaurants looks so fresh and delicious!!! Makes me long for a Slovanian Pizzaria and Farmer's Market in Arvada.

Interesting art or at least an interpretation of such! I don't think I would stand long under the suspended boulders! Were the mannequins anatomically correct?

Thanks for the glimpse of Slovania. Absolutely Beautiful!

Sandy
