Our last full day in Barcelona - and again we have beautiful weather. We already determined that we would have lunch at our favorite restaurant (Xamfre Gaudi) across the street and dinner at our other favorite restaurant (Piazzaetti) on Av. Gaudi. Now we needed to decide what to do for the day. We decided to head back to the waterfront and to that mall. Jim has been looking for some sunglasses. For those of you that know his Navy Reserve ones, although they are still good glasses we have been talking about his need for some nicer ones. We were in luck and he found some nice ones at a Formula 1 Racing store. Look to see him in his new shades in the next days to come! Then we were looking for an FC Barcelona shirt for Will. We found that too! So far, so good. Then we headed back to the mainland and went to the church Santa Maria del Mar. A church that was built by shipping 'moguls'. This church lost all of its interior furnishings during the Spanish Civil War when it was torched and burned

. It is now a very basic church and the ceiling is still black from the smoke and soot. Whenever I am in a church I always walk around and choose one of the side chapels to make my 'donation'. Today I walked around and I chose the St. Rita Chapel. Then when we arrived back home I had an e-mail from Frances and she had to tell us that last night Rita, our sweet black dog that always accompanies us on our mountain when we visit, was hit by a car and they couldn't save her and had to put her to sleep. Interesting that I chose that chapel - but I have since written back to Frances and they are going to bury her up on our property. She was rescued from the mountain and that was her second home, so for those of you that know Rita...and Mango, you know that she will be in a beautiful place. After leaving the Church then on the side is an eternal flame that burns for those killed on September 11, 1714 when they were massacred by the Bourbon King of Madrid. We wandered around this area which is really charming with a lot of interesting shops, cafes and restaurants. Then we came back home and went up to our other favorite restaurant for dinner and Sangria. I have the exact recipe now! Tomorrow we have the entire morning to pack up and then we need to be to the airport by 12:30. On to Sharon and Christoph´s for fun in the biergartens and for Jim - the schnitzel, sauerkraut and white asparagus.Adios!

Adios, Barcelona
Enjoyed your last day in Barcelona. As I said the other day we are sorry to see you leave this interesting city but look forward to seeing your next adventure!
I am sure your friend, Mary Lou, appreciates seeing the fine cathederal stained glass windows, I know we do. You captured a particularly fine photo with the statue in front and the circular window behind. So lovely.
Sorry to read about your canine friend, Rita. Perhaps some day a small bench and a satue of St. Francis of Assisi would be a fitting tribute to your little friend.
Have a good flight.
Sandy
So Sad
I am sure you are a little sad to be leaving and also sad about Rita. I remember the two of them and I am sure Francis will miss her. You had a great trip and I too look forward to the next one. I wish you trouble free travel home.
Last Day
Glad you had a good time on your last day. Sorry to hear about Rita - I know Will will be sad to hear that.
Am I the only one that votes on your entries??

So sad about Rita.... Crazy about the church you went to....
Have fun at your next stop...
