A sunny morning today in Munich - we all slept in after our long day yesterday - and then spent a bit of time at home doing laundry and getting things organized.  We then took the train into Munich and walked around a bit through the Viktualienmarkt checking out the cute Christmas items.  Then we went to our favorite "1-800-Sausages"  This is not the real name - but our name for it.  We were so cold from walking outside as the clear skies also brought with them more wind and bitter cold.  We warmed up near the open kitchen where the food was all being cooked over a wood burning grill.  We had sausages, potato salad, sauerkraut and pretzels that were fresh from the oven.  After that we walked around a bit more in the Marienplatz and checked out the preparations for the Christkindlmarkt.  Then we walked over to Alois Dallmayr for a coffee and to split a piece of cake - Dallmayr is a very old (Since 1700) specialty foods store with the best of the best in Munich.  Like Kafer, we always visit this shop when we are in Munich Munich 01

.  We walked around a bit more - went to the Hofbrauhaus and walked by the "House of Schweinshaxe" where Jim drooled over the Pork Knuckles roasting on the rotisseries.  It was closing in on 6 p.m. and we were anxiously awaiting news on our new niece who was born this morning and we couldn't wait to get home and hopefully view some photos and get all the details.  Alli Jill Cassiday was born at 8:21 a.m. and was 8 lbs 0 oz. She has a little dark hair and resembles Will a lot from his baby photos.  Will is happy with her as is everyone else.  We saw a little video of her and some photos - so we are not feeling quite so sad at being so far away.  After getting all the news and talking to Jason and Marney on the phone we headed up to the Weihenstephan Brewery for dinner.  One of our last chances for Schnitzel and Schweinshaxe.  Sharon and I had split everything today but tonight we all ordered full meals and Jim had the Schweinshaxe of course.  I had a Pork Schnitzel with Pretzel crumbs and cheese.  Sharon had Turkey Schnitzel with Corn Flakes and Sesame Seeds and Christoph had Wiener Schnitzel - it was all delicious.  If you remember from our visit here in May, we ate here one day - but we hiked up the huge hill that time - tonight we drove and therefore only had a tiny uphill walk from the parking lot!  Our last full day is tomorrow - we are still finalizing our plans - but I am sure it may include a Schweinshaxe stop for Jim.

Schwabing
Nice Post - if you're still in Munich check out Brown's Tea Bar in the Schwabing area. It's just a few blocks from the English Gardens.

The pics are great and the food pics look good enough to eat. Congratulations on your niece's birth - she couldn't have picked a better day to be born -that's my (Roseann's) birthday.

Finally caught up!!!!!
Wow what a trip. I read it all and I am impressed with how well you tell the story. I don't know how you can keep all the names in your head. It must be nice to be young!!!! I do remember a day when Jim would have been proposistioned for more than just hashish. He must be slipping a little!!! Try to keep his ego up Steph. I liked the comment on the port wine where they say if you open it you have to drink it the same day. My kind of drink. Jim I bet you wish you could have gotten that big price for a small coffee in your business. I know I do. Stephanie I hope you can get those pork knuckles in Costa Rica so Jim won't have to go through withdrawl when you get back. I had to wipe the drool off of my chin when I looked at it. What no gelato pictures???????????? Maybe I just missed them or is Jim on a diet. Robin and I appreciated the call on Thanksgiving. It was great to hear from the four of you. I look forward to meeting Sharon and Christoph some day as they must be fun to be with. Be safe and have a great time.
