A quick greetings from the Gulf of Mexico.
We met up with some people last night that we had met the first day onboard and they wanted to make a confession to us....they are both employees of Royal Caribbean and are traveling aboard incognito doing 'secret' inspections of the ship. We saw them last night after dinner and they told us that they wanted to let us know what their 'real' story was and they invited us to have a drink with them. Very nice people who have interesting stories - so we had many good travel stories to share. He is from Seattle and she is from Australia - but lives now in the U.S. They will both be in Costa Rica in the next weeks and her boyfriend has purchased some land there - so it looks like we may definitely be meeting up with her in the future. Once again we are lucky to meet more nice and interesting people aboard a ship. I think the word is out on who they are though - because one of the head waiters approached us today and said that he saw us with 'them' in the Champagne Bar last night. It was pretty funny - actually the whole story is interesting - but for another day perhaps.
This morning the Captain spoke to us and told us that we were heading in a different direction towards New Orleans so that we could meet a Coast Guard Helicopter and hopefully make a successful connection at sea due to a medical emergency. A young boy apparently has appendicitis and they needed to evacuate him as soon as possible - and of course I think they made a wise choice going to the U.S. vs. Mexico.....
We just witnessed the Coast Guard helicopter hovering over the upper decks and dropping the basket a few times - dropping off and picking up the patient and his father. It was quite exciting and it looks like everything will be fine for the patient - or so they think. Based on what we know from Chepe's work as a Dr I would say that he received excellent care - but I also know that they can if necessary perform a surgery - but it is something that they really are not that well equipped to handle - so they did the right thing.
Now the pool decks and upper/outer decks are open and we will go and enjoy the rest of the day.
Photos will come tomorrow of the rescue.
McTaggart - have fun golfing! Jim has had plenty of ice cream in the dining room - but no gelato on this trip...stay tuned for what's to come in April though!
Will - Ahnie and Bahdee say that you can peek in your box if you want!!! Tell Momma and Daddy we said it was ok.
