. This property hosts a lot of media junkets and so whenever there is a movie premier or other media function - it often times will take place here. On our first afternoon we went down to have lunch at a restaurant recommended by the staff - Cuvee' and they did not have the hotel driver available to take us - but they said that they would send him to pick us up when we were ready to return. We had nice lunch and had planned on doing some shopping - but the temperatures were so high - it was 100 degrees and really unbearable for walking around - so we returned to the hotel after lunch....we were picked up by the driver and the Rolls Royce Phantom....wow - what a car...Christoph - that is what you need to get next. I think the price is in the $400,000.00 range. But of course less for you when you exchange your Euros for Dollars - so a bargain!! It was definitely luxurious! So we felt that we were definitely living the life of the rich and famous these last couple of days.
We spent Friday evening with Roberto - we went to Santa Monica and walked on the promenade. We had dinner at an Italian Bistro there and were so happy to be spending time with Roberto again.
Saturday morning I got up early and picked Roberto up and we headed up to LAX where he needed to redeem a voucher with American Airlines for a quick trip back to Costa Rica next week. Then we picked Jim up at the hotel and headed out for brunch in Hollywood. Once again - it was unbearably hot and a bit humid. We had planned on walking around and seeing the Chinese Theatre - Kodak Theatre and the Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Well - we saw a couple - Lucille Ball - was one - and then we decided to get back in the car and do a drive-by on the rest of the sights
. Roberto had to work at 2 - so we dropped him off and then Jim and I headed down to Venice Beach and from there we drove North on Pacific Coast Highway - back through Santa Monica and then up to Malibu - once in Malibu we headed up into the Malibu Canyon and brought that back around into the Topanga Canyon and back into Santa Monica. By this time we were starting to get a little hungry - it was near 6 p.m. so we decided to hit a Los Angeles Landmark! Pinks! Pinks Famous Chili Dogs! Gourmet hot dogs! We arrived to find the line just barely wrapping around the building - we got in line and one hour and 3 minutes later we were ordering! Can you believe all of that for a hot dog!?! Well - I had told Jim that I had heard that his good friend Rosie O'Donnell had a hot dog named after her - and what would he do if that was the one combination that he wanted?! Well - there were many different combinations to choose from - and Jim - as much as he hated to admit it - wanted the Rosie O'Donnell - Long Island Dog. I had a variation of the Mulholland Drive Dog. I think I will attach the photo - beware - it is frightening - we could not finish it all - it was too much - but the atmosphere was fun and the patrons were definitely happy - even after waiting in line for at least one hour! We then headed back to the hotel and enjoyed the rest of the evening there. Tomorrow we start our drive up the coast but I have a surprise visit planned for Jim during the day....stay tuned!!
We picked up our car that will be serving us for the remainder of our trip in California. We have a Toyota Highlander - it is pretty nice and we have quite a bit of space in the back for all of our luggage and that was important. We made a quick trip up to LA / Beverly Hills and stopped first at our good friend Roberto's house before then checking in at our hotel for the next days. Roberto is a good friend of ours from Costa Rica - some of you have met him - he worked at the Marriott in San Jose until the Four Seasons Papagayo opened up in Guanacaste. He worked there from the opening of that hotel and has just transferred 4 ½ months ago to the Four Seasons Beverly Hills. This is where we have stayed for the last two nights. Joining us in these days is Jodie Foster and Jane Fonda....Jim wanted to check out early after hearing about the latter...ha! A nice property and we have a very nice room looking to the Hollywood Hills and downtown LA. Roberto has one of the best addresses in Beverly Hills - he lives just a few blocks from the hotel in the 90211 zip code. He has a very nice apartment and is settling in to the life of the rich and famous here in Beverly Hills - he has met so many different celebrities at the hotel as he is the Manager of the Bellman and Valets - so he is always in the presence of the guests as they arrive
