Boarded Volvo bus for trip to Ring of K. Driver Denis Fenton wheeled that thing through places unbelievably narrow & twisting, barely missing bicyclists, pedestrians, other buses, & ordinary motorists unlucky enough to be in our path.
Denis entertained us by telling jokes in his thick Irish brogue. One, about the crow and the bull, went as follows: An Irish crow got very sick and weak
We passed through Killorglin, Glenbeigh, Kells, Cahirciveen (where we caught glimpse of Daniel O’Connell’s house), Waterville, Caherdaniel, and Sneem (2:15 p.m.), where, from bridge, I got some great (I hope) shots of stream, rapids, picturesque rocks, and green foliage, with scenic church in background. Used both cameras (one loaded with slide film, the other with print film, both ASA-100).
Bus leaves 2:45 pm
We continued on toward Killarney National Park, stopping along road overlooking the Lake of Killarney, for photographers’ benefit. Took several shots, both slides and prints, about 3:30 pm.
At 3:50 p.m., bus stopped at Killarney National Park. More photography: shots of Muckross Abbey ruins (hundreds of years old). Also of scenic bridge near park entrance, and of jaunting cart, with horse & driver.
Returning to city of Killarney, learned that we could not have luxury apt. for 3rd night, but helpful people at Ross Hotel got us reservations at 3 Lakes Hotel for tomorrow night. They accepted Aer Lingus vouchers, but mentioned 1 pound supplement per person. Pat said that was not correct & we should not pay it. Knowing we had a place to stay when we returned, we left.
