Bloody bus, bloody dirt roads, bloody rain! Thats was my experience of my journey from El Bolson to El Chalten. The bus ride lasted over 30 hours with a 3 hour brake in the middle? I left El Bolson at the lovely time of 11:15 in the evening after spending the day in the park with a couple of beers and alot of time on the internet. The road between El Bolson and Chalten is mostly unsealed so it made fore a slow and bumby ride. Sleep was made difficult by the crazy heating system which was eventually turned off. We where left at a fuel station for three hours to change buses about half way at a town Perito Moreno? What we didnt know is that the town was only a short walk away which would of made the wait more comfortable. Our second bus was slightly more comfortable with better seats and made less noise. The driver also has a problem with the airconditioning but this time it was with the cooling system which switched in at random times throughout the night, the bumpy road made for another night of poor sleep. We arrived in El Chalten at 7 in the morning, it was dark and drizziling and the town layout didnt make it look very inviting. I walked around for 30 minutes looking for the info centre which I didnt find and probably wasnt open like everything else. I choose a drab looking camping area on a corner close to town which is very small and busy with other tents. I pitched my tent in the rain and hopped inside for a rest. My mood changed after some sleep, thankfully the weather cleared and the sun came out at around 11am when I arose to have a look around town. The town is very small and spread out with the usual big and expensive hotel on the hill. There are many restruants and outdoor guiding shops for the tourist. I found the tourist office and map and then a better campground with more space where I will be moving to tom. Tomorrow Ill be going on a hike to have a look at the impressive Cerro Torre one of the peaks that can be partly seen from town. Im hoping the weather stays the same us today as it can be very unpredictable down here.
