I'm in Mendoza! Argentina and its bloody hot! I'm staying at a camping ground a small distance away from the city. There is a large park area and man made lake close by. The camping is great but a little expensive, the other option is staying in a Hostel, but I will spend the same amount as I am now or a little extra for a dorm bed. The camping ground has hot water and each site comes with a basin and a BBQ, which we has utilised every night we have been here. We? you ask. I met up with a French traveler who is a bit younger, by four days. We met in Copacabana in North Bolivia and have been traveling together ever since. His Spanish is excellent which has made me not have to use mine. A plus for my personal embarrassment but a negative for my learning.
I traveled south from the border of Bolivia, stopping in Pilcara for two nights and another night in Salta. I traveled the 21 hours to Mendoza by bus using up the second half of Christmas day. I'm planning to spend. We where enticed to spend more time in Salta because my mates guide book told of a large pool. We were disappointed to find it empty when we arrived. The pool looked very spectacular, about the size of 3-4 footy fields in a large oval shape. We only stayed in Salta for one night, the heat, humidity and the waterless pool were too much.
We have enjoyed cooking for ourselves with the supplied BBQ. The meat in Argentina has an reputation of being the best in South America, so we have been eating allot of meat and a vegetable or two. It is very hard to buy a decent stake or any other kind of meat in Bolivia and Peru. It usually is deep fried and about as thick as the plate it is served on. Refrigeration of food is only a theory in Bolivia and Peru.
We went on a self powered bicycle wine tour a small distance from Mendoza. We visited a Museum and that is as far as we got. The heat and shitty bikes made it tough moving around. The area was close to an industrial area witch took away from the romance of the vineyards in the area.
Ill think iŽll be here for New Years this year. My French friend is unsure where he is going, Chile perhaps, before he heads down to Patagonia. My wooff search is going along, slowly. There are some nice sounding place around this area and also closer to Buenas Aries.
Ill get some photos on here shortly. Have a great New Year!
