Having finally managed to leave little Pangkor, we headed north on yet another bus towards Butterworth and then a ferry across to Georgetown, Penang. We'd got so used to relatively deserted Pangkor that it was a bit of a culture shock of how busy Georgetown was. Checked in to an ok hotel which had a nice pool (I know we're supposed to be backpacking...) only to find Liz, Chris and Matt (from Pangkor) were staying three doors away (out of 15 floors!). Georgetown was fairly lively in the evening and we managed to find some western food which made a nice change... this was only after I managed to eat the worlds hottest Tom Yam Gung (spicy seafood soup) - quite literaly made my eyes water... so I obviously had todouse the flames with a cold beer or 7.

Not quite sure what we actually got up to for two days, apart from going to see the famous (sic) Buddist Snake Temple where the incense smelled amazing - fourtunately it was enough to send the snakes into a drugged up trance. Georgetown was also our first ladyboy sighting - surely not the last, Vic's seemed delighted?! We decided to move on to Langkawi rather than go around Penang so booked ourselves on the first ferry the next morning - alarm went off before 7am... bit of a shock. The ferry took a couple of hours and when we arrived the scenery was simply stunning...
