This is probably the best lake I've ever swam in, what a treat! After that we're heading to the beach again to see a big ship wrackage that lays on shore. Just before we arrive I'm offered to take a 15 min flight over Fraser Island. The small airplane is just in front of the bus on the beach.I take a few seconds to think... What the hell, let's do it! The next minute I am in an airplane that takes off from the beach an flyes over the ocean! I can see some big stingrays from above. Fraser looks beautiful from above and gives a good overview. You clearly see the transistions from the beach with dry vegetation to the green forests with the freshwater lakes in the middle. It's also awesome to see the ship wrackage from above! Wow, this was certainly a big plus for this one day trip. To close it all up we end the trip by walking up the biggest freshwater creek and let ourselves flow back down to the beach. Perfect end of this amazing trip! In my hostel I meet a Dutch guy that actually lives in Utrecht as well, what are the odds. We have some beers in the Hotel with some live music. We also work in the same branche and we'll definitly catch up in Utrecht. Good times :)The next day I'm off to Airlie beach for my Whit Sundays cruise. There's a heatwave and I am driving without airco.. I can tell you it's hard with 41 degrees celcius! The radio makes up for it when I hear this incredible housetrack of Mujuice. Yep, music is a releave for a lot of situations :) After driving 4 hours it's enough and I spend the night in Rockhampton, the meat capital of Australia. Next stop: Arlie beach!
Another premium spot on te eastcoast: Fraser Island! It's gonna be the next highlight of my trip. I'll be staying at Rainbow beach, sounds pretty nice eej! My tour leaves early in the morning and we take a ferry to Fraser Island. It's the biggest sand island in the world (22 kms by 123 kms). It also contains fresh water 7 times the size of Sydney Harbour! Your not alloud to take any sand of the island since it's a world heritage site. It's one of the purest sands in the world and works as the best filter which means fresh water doesn't get any purer then this. That's my little intro on Fraser Island. I'm doing a one day tour because timewise I can't afford any longer. A four wheel driven bus drives us over the beach which is an actual highway. Our first stop is in the middle of the island which is the most green part. We do a small forest walk along some freshwater creeks. The water looks so pure! Next stop is one of the big fresh water lakes on Fraser: Lake McKenzie. Time for a swim!
