Back in Christchurch to spend my last days in NZ! I'm spending my last 2 nights at the Rucksack Backpackers. I'm joining into a conversation with some Irish guys who tell funny stories. I also meet another French guy and we share some stories. It seems he'll be in Brisbane pretty soon and that's one of my destinations as well, so we agree on meeting up there and grab some beers together! This really is the backpacker feeling for me: different nationalities, sharing stories while drinking a beer together, love it! The next day I bought some beers to drink in the afternoon because it's a beautiful day. In the backpackers garden I meet up with one of the Irish guys. Soon an older man joins us. He's a kiwi and works in construction. He let's me in a little secret about the cause of the collabsing buildings during the Christchurch earthquake. It's not the design of the building he says. It's the f*cking concreet! This guy swears in almost every sentence, but tells a good story which sounds very logical. Apperantly concreet needs something to bind to. Smart people of smart companies in smart cities in NZ, which is like every city except christchurch, use 5 cornered stones in concreet for binding. And what does Christchurch use? Smooth non cornered stones... Which makes concreet fall apart during an earthquake. Fascinating information since construction companies will rebuild Christchurch using the same way of making concreet. Which does not make any sense, cause every building will collapse again during a next earthquake! It's all about power and money. After this interesting conversation it's time to pick up Emma for some drinks and dinner. We went to one of Emma's favorite spots, an Indian reataurant. And that's great cause I am a big fan of curries: Hurry hurry! Give me some curry! After a great meal it's time to say goodbye.'Thanks Emma! For your time, hospitality and the good times! I enjoyed my time in Christchurch!'The next day I'm heading off to Australia, to my family in Adelaide. NZ was a really great experience! Sure I've missed a couple of great sights cause of bad weather. Those things happen. But the things I did get to see during this trip were amazing!Another land to cross from my 2 do list: New Zealand [ X ]
