Finally I'm about to visit one of New Zealands top destinations; The Abel Tasman National Park!
Named of course after our famous Dutch discoverer who also was one of the first Europeans to set foot on NZ ground. The town of Nelson will be my homebase for the next couple of days. I'm going to do a one day trip to the Park. A watertaxi dropps me off at the starting point and I will hike my way back. Taxi's are not my favorite way of transport, but this is definitly an exception! This is not a slow moving boat, this is highly powered motorboat! The captain shows a little bit of the bay. The Abel Tasman hike is a very nice coastal track with some stunning views over small bays and beaches. I get to cross a swinging bridge and take a shortcut over the sandbank during lowtide which is a really nice route as well. Indeed I can recommand the Abel Tasman National park to everybody! My last day in Nelson I spent on some mountainbiking and hiking through some hills. Back in the hostel I overhear some girls talking about South Africa. It's their next destination but it seems they are really afraid of traveling overthere because of all the bad stories regarding safety. I share my experiences of my journey in South Africa and tell them there are lot's of women travelling on their own and as long as they follow some basic rules they will be fine. This gives them piece of mind and makes them look forward again to their trip :)
