Rotorua.. The Maori culture capital of New Zealand... Or Rotten Egg city as I like to call it cause of the geothermal activity around here.
This is actually a point in time during my trip where I had to make a change of plans and skip some great stuff. Why? First of all lot's of activities cost a lot of money. It's not like you can just walk over to a gaiser. You need transport to almost any site you want to see and pay either an entrance fee or pay for an mandatory guided tour. Too bad because I would have like to have seen the sulfur lakes and gaisers in Rotorua.
I also had to skip the Tongariro Crossing (Mount Doom in Lord of the Rings) because of bad weather conditions which still really bothers me.
Lake Taupo did not seemed that special to me so I skipped that spot as well.
So what's my plan now you're thinking?
Well straight to Wellington to meet up with my German friend I made in Waitomo!
We both sort of decided to put more effort in the South Island anyway.
A 9 hour busdrive takes me to Wellington. During this trip I still get to see Mount Doom from the bus and it looks impressive.
The scenery is really great and I actually get to see a lot of the country by driving through it.
I find some time to read a book (Maya Noisa, for anybody who's open to spirituality/enlightment seen from a different point of view), write some stories for this blog and listen to some music.
It also gives me time to reflect on my trip so far and look into some stuff I'd like to do in Wellington. One thing is certain: I'll definitly will drink some beers with my German friend in Wellington :D
