On my first attempt (hereafter known as CC1), I killed myself on the first day. So I had told myself that this time I was going to start slow, and build into this thing as I went. My longest rides at home have been 3- 4 hrs, so I figured I'd go farther later as I built fitness. That said, my performance today was somewhat disappointing. But the good news is, I have excuses. Took us a while to get to the beach due to traffic. Took even longer to find all the stuff needed on the bike, since it was all squirreled away somewhere in the RV. Finally, got the obligatory beach picture and set off. About a mile and a half later, the directions I was working off of crapped out, I had Johann meet me, and we threw together a Plan B.
The first part of the first day is pretty tough
Most of the route was the same as CC1. Kind of odd to remember what I was thinking and feeling my first time through. Also meant I didn't need to take many pics. Been there, seen that. Maybe the best news of the day was that I found a backup profession in case that sausage thing quits working out. There is a gold mining operation for sale. Supposedly a lot of gold still waiting to be found.
Quit after 70-75 miles. (Without the computer I'm not sure) Not great. Hoping to average better than 100 a day. Total trip is right about 2500 miles. At this rate, I might not be home until the July 4th.
Tomorrow will be better. Plus, the route will be new to me, which will up the level of interest and adventure.
