Not much to say tonight. Woke up this morning and decided to take the day off as soon as my right foot hit the floor. Really didn't want to burn an off day after just two days riding, but I'm trying to take the long view and thought the rest might help my knee.

So, what did I do? Nuthin'. Decided I'm not real good at that. Walked to the library after breakfast, got there to find they wouldn't open for an hour. So I walked across the street to a park, found a shaded bench and sat down. Some teenagers were playing at the skatepark, I watched for awhile. Kept feeling like the police were circling (station was nearby) keeping an eye on the weird guy (me) sitting on the bench. Across the way was a homeless guy with all his wordly posessions. He acted in a way that somehow had me thinking he seemed pretty happy, I know the kids were. And there I sat, pretty much got the world by the ass in my real life, feeling bummed that I was sitting in that same park, on that same day. It would seem that happiness is very much a matter of perspective.

Spent a lot of time reworking my route. Seems that originally I did not spend enough time considering if there would be any hotels around when I completed my daily ride. Hopefully, I've fixed that. The plan for tomorrow is to ride to Wickenburg, AZ, about 125 miles away.

Thanks to all those posting coments in this blog. Strangely, I really look forward to reading those at night. And, if you want to help in some other way, I've thought of a few things you might send me. A peloton would be nice, as would an orthopedic guy, and some aid stations stocked with cold beverages or maybe a support van with a massage therapist that could carry my 30 pounds of crap. A guy can dream, can't he?

Don't worry, dude......I'm keepin' Patty busy!
Hey there, Jimbo!! How's that sore knee today? Hope this message finds you off and riding again this morning!! Just wanted to reassure you that 'girlfriend' here is doing her part to keep Patty busy while you are gone!! Took her to one of my 'many' country clubs yesterday. I'm going to make sure that she also stays 'well hydrated,' just like you!! Plenty o' liquids, that's what I always say! Yesterday's liquid was 'Mimosas' (poolside, of course)! Catch ya later, 'biker boy'!! XXXOOO

ACROSS U.S.A.
HI JIM
ERNA AND I HAVE DRIVEN ACROSS THE COUNTRY SEVERAL TIMES, AND WE ENJOY FOLLOWING YOUR TRIP AND PICTURES.
SOMETIMES OUR DRIVING TRIPS DID NOT GO MORE THAN 150 MILES A DAY. ERNA ESPECIALLY LIKED THE SMALL TOWNS.

Hang in...
Hey Jim -- I can't get an orthopaedic doc to you, or a cooler full of icy beverages (and I don't even know what a peloton is), but I can offer you a turkey dinner with spatzele and Oma's gravy when you get home, along with apple pie for dessert. We can make it an early birthday dinner in July. Now I must get back to work (and I've made myself hungry)!
Take care.

Your big sis

Deep(er) thoughts
JB, you've always been one of the deeper thinkers I know, and with all of this time on your hands those thoughts are getting even deeper! Maybe you can solve this global energy issue along with the global warming.....or maybe just how to hook-up a sail to that bike. That would take a little pressure off the knee.
Hopefully you'll be in Wickenburg by the time you read this and the knee held up okay. It's 92 degrees here today, so in your honor I'm going to ride my bike 20 miles around the loop and then have a cold one.
Keep 'em spinnin'!!

You don't know me but
I work with your sister Debbie. She has invited me to a girls' weekend at your killer house in September. Thanks for letting us stay!

You are the second craziest person I (don't) know. I knew a man in San Francisco, Charles, who biked from Los Angeles to Uraguay, the country of his birth and where he had previously been imprisoned and tortured for thinking and speaking freely. He had about 10 times the amount of stuff you do on your bike.

Do you have everything you need in those little bags? Amazing. Next time I travel, I'll call you for packing advice. Then, I'll give you advice on how to do nothing. I'm a pro.

Isn't the desert, um, dry? I used to think I hated humidity until I lived in Santa Fe in the high desert. Now, I prefer wearing a nice sheen of persperation.

Good luck with your travels and I hope your knee is better soon.

Best wishes,
Theresa Fox

Rock On Rock Star!
Wow -- now you're famous and socially-skilled. What next!

Sounds like you had a better day yesterday. Hope the knee is better. While you are traveling, could you ask everyone you meet if they would like a very cute cat. She thinks she belongs to me and is living under the camper.

Your big sis
