What I did
Today we moved to Fortuna Pond about 16 miles from our last spot, here, we're parked on a dirt path around Fortuna Pond... a 10 or 12 acre pond.... its fed by a 10" water line off the canal and a 8" line runs the water off the other end into another canal... I can only assume that when they claimed the farm land and displaced the wild life they needed to provide habitat for them and this
pond is that habitat..
The fishing is good... they are catching nice 10-15" trout out of the pond daily... and when we pulled in there were 15-20 fisherman working at catching them.. We're here because one of the couples from Mexico are here... so we're camped right next door...
We had a few drinks before the sun went down and started our fire... we sat around the fire with several other couples and decided to BBQ a turkey tomorrow night for instructions see our previous blog... Sunday we return to our winter home in Arizona City.....
We're dry camping for the first time... this is a new experience for Connie.... we've got enough water for most of a week but we're out of here in 4 days so we're covered... we have enough black water and gray water storage for a week but we're out of here in 4 days so we're covered ... The gen set is running and the electric heater is running and in an hour or so we'll shut that down and run on our batteries for the rest of the night.... we've got the Dish up and running so the TV is on and we're busy... I'm writing this blog and Connie is editing the photos from today... We'll shut down the gen set, and an inverter will provide power for the TV, Dish, heated mattress pad, and needs of old farts...
We've got some great photos of a Blue Heron that was on the pond feeding.... so photos of
one of the birds of pray fishing.... and some great sunset photos... We've got a beaver running around so I've been told, so tomorrow night I'll set up the game camera to see if we can catch him running down the paths... the game camera takes 3 photos in short order when something
moves in front of it.. during the day its a color camera and at night its an inf-red camera.... in both modes it silent... and with some luck we'll catch the photos of the beaver...
Connie also has some great photos of the sunset over the pond... a 1/4 of a mile from us is
an organic farm with green onions, cabbage, lettuce and other truck farm crops... as we drove in there were 50 people in one of the field harvesting lettuce, in another field they were working it up to replant the next corp... all provided with water from the Colorado River not more than a 1/2 mile away...
For a long time I've tried to encourage Connie to take a Hot Air Balloon ride..
air balloons at Walla Walla, during that Balloon Stampede... and have been to New Mexico twice for the grand pappy of them all, the Balloon Fiesta... Out of the blue a few days ago she thought we should do it.... Wayne and Kathy (sis and BIL) have a friend here who runs some
Balloon's so we called him and now are scheduled for a flight on Sat a.m. More on this after the flight...
Rowdy was happy to see Tasha and Gracie again and make friends with a Newfoundland Quincy!
