Today was another EXCEPTIONAL day…
It’s very amazing the watch the pecking order of the animals and the animals within the group feed… One sow (grizzly) and 2 yearlings cubs were feeding yesterday when the sow left and the 2 yearlings were feeding when a very large adult (grizzly) approached … the 2 cubs left as soon as he approached and the two wolves that were feeding and lying within 10 feet of the carcass moved to at least 75 ft away while he dined… later as he moved on, the 2 wolves returned to finish their meal.. We were told that some of the adult wolves can get 20-25 lbs of meat into their stomachs and then later regurgitate it up for the cubs.
Early this a.m
While Connie was down closer to the stream for a better photo I noticed a Badger not 50 ft from me looking for breakfast. I called her back and while we were taking photos of the Badger at least 20 people walked past us to the Eagle… It wasn’t until we pointed him out to the others that they saw him and photographed him…
Today we met a couple from Belgium and while chatting with him, he commented that his dad had been here (Yellowstone) when he was young and told his boy that if he could ever afford it to come to this country and see the park… He was amazed and commented how great it was that our fore fathers set these parks aside, as there are no other parks like this in the world where people can come to see this kind of country and wild life…
Later we chatted with 2 couples from England, 1 Swiss couple and one from Holland but the couple I most enjoyed was a Turkish man and his wife from South America… I’ve forgotten the country… He works for Los Alamos, in New Mexico as a physicist and has been there for the past 20 years… I asked if he worked on the secret stuff, and he commented that some of what he did was like that and some was basic research…
This morning I was out getting ready to go and our neighbor came over and asked if we’d seen the moose in our back yard… I said no, my wife has the drapes drawn in the RV… he said a cow and calf walked past us, and 10 min later walked back… we checked the back of the RV and we could see their prints in the dirt not 6-8’ off the trailer so tonight, our final night the game camera is going up and we’ll see what we get in the a.m.
